New public sculpture by Rósa Gísladóttir, Reykjavík, IS
January 08, 2026
A new public sculpture by Rósa Gísladóttir has risen at Grensásvegur 1, Reykjavík.

The work, which is titled Stanslaus, was selected from submitted proposals in a closed competition, but the jury's comments state (among other things) that the work effectively resonates with the curved lines of the building. Part of the work is beautifully colored glass, and the sculpture will be enjoyed both at night and during the day with beautiful lighting. It can be expected that the work will become a landmark for the building and the surrounding area and an interesting part of the streetscape of Grensásvegur, the new building and important intersections, where many drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians make their daily journeys.

The competition for artwork at Grensásvegur 1 was carried out in collaboration with the landowner and the City of Reykjavík, with the support of the Icelandic Artists' Union, and the Reykjavík Art Museum supervised the project.
