Katrín Elvarsdóttir at Sláturhúsið Cultural Centre in Egilsstaðir, Iceland
June 23, 2025
Hiraeth is a Welsh word with no direct translation - a deep, emotional longing for a home that may never have existed, or that has been irreversibly lost. It also serves as the title of an exhibition that brings together 31 members of the Icelandic Contemporary Photographers Association (FÍSL), each responding to this theme through photography, among them being Katrín Elvarsdóttir.

The selected works explore memory, belonging, absence, and imagined places of comfort - both personal and collective. Spanning landscapes, intimate portraits, and abstract reflections, the exhibition offers a diverse yet connected visual conversation on how we carry places and emotions with us, and the ways we search for home across time and space.
Curator of the exhibition is Yael BC and it remains on view until 26 July, 2025.
